How to choose (what matters for a 1–10 person firm)
- Total cost per user: multiply the per-user price by everyone who needs a login, including paralegals and intake staff. Annual billing is cheaper on MyCase and PracticePanther.
- Intake and texting: if your clients prefer texting, especially Spanish-speaking clients who text from their phones, check that two-way texting is on the plan you are buying (MyCase Pro, PracticePanther Business, Clio Core and up per its plan table).
- Trust accounting: all four handle trust ledgers; confirm reconciliation features against your state bar rules.
- Migration: ask what data migration is included. Clio lists self-serve migration on Starter and guided migration from Core up.
Bilingual practices: what to check
None of these platforms is a translation service. What helps a bilingual firm is texting, a client portal clients can use from a phone, and templates you can keep in both languages. MyCase says its 8am IQ Writing Assistant (on Pro) can translate languages. Verify that output before it reaches a client. The software won't answer the phone in Spanish for you; that is a staffing decision (see the note at the end of this page).
